  Job Opening: Executive Director

Animals As Intermediaries is seeking a dynamic, well-organized Executive Director to join our team; someone who has a commitment to our mission, an understanding of the field of nature education and nature-based therapy, enjoys teamwork, is intrinsically motivated, and brings creativity, humor and a sense of adventure.

The Executive Director will report to the Board, and supervise the Development and Outreach Director, Program Coordinators, Administrative Assistant and Volunteers. Responsibilities include developing and implementing interdisciplinary direct service programs combining nature, animals, and the arts; developing workshops, training methods, successful fundraising, grant writing, and financial oversight; and overseeing organizational direction and strategic vision.

Qualifications:The ideal candidate will possess excellent decision-making skills, interpersonal and organizational skills; a demonstrated interest in people, nature, animals, and the arts; a strong background in education, natural science, healthcare, or social service; excellent skills in fundraising, and grant writing, in teaching and public speaking; and solid experience with non-profit work. It will be essential to have or to quickly acquire a thorough understanding of the field of nature/animal-assisted therapy. Integrity, professionalism, vision, and creativity are key qualities for this position. A proven track record in fundraising and financial management is essential. The Executive Director position requires the ability to serve as a spokesperson for the organization, to build relationships with other organizations and individuals, including major donors, and to oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization. This job is ideal for an individual with diverse training (a social worker who majored in non-profit management, a science teacher/naturalist who has demonstrated experience in fundraising and has experience working with special needs populations).

Responsibilities: The Executive Director leads Animals As Intermediaries in providing AAI services, fundraising, managing budget and resources, directing staff, and maintaining and developing external relations. The ED works with the board to develop, monitor, and change strategic plans when necessary as well as to determine and implement policy for the organization. The ED works closely with the Board Committees. The ED is committed to carrying out the organizational goals and mission.

To Apply: Please e-mail a cover letter, resume, and references to jobs@aai-nature.org
Deadline: AAI will accept applications until September 7, 2008 or until position is filled.
